These are some of the tunes that I have been requested to play over the years.
The most popular is Highland Cathedral
Followed by: Flower of Scotland, Amazing Grace, Skye boat song,One of my favourite tunes to play at weddings is one I was asked to transpose for the pipes. We only have nine notes and don’t normally play sharp or flat notes, so quite a number of tunes we are unable to play on the pipes because of this but I was asked to play ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ a beautiful song by Elton John and recorded in ‘The Lion KIng’. It just works a treat on the pipes and often a tear starts to roll down some faces.
Other tunes from the movies:
The Rose from The Rose
and Gift of a Thistle from Braveheart
Another great tune that I was asked to make an arrangement for by my good friend Robert Inverarity is Dougie Macleans Caledonia.
A couple of more recent tunes that I play regularly are Ed Sheerans’ ‘Perfect’ and Christina Perris’ 1000 years. Some tunes just ‘work’ on the pipes.
One I will always remember playing is the KISS song ‘I was made for loving you’ Never heard on bagpipes but people loved it and the bride even did a little dance while signing the register!!
Feel free to give me some suggestions if you have any favourites.
